Tips for Building Positive Partnerships with Your Child’s Teachers

November 11, 2024
Parent Resources

Having a good relationship with your child’s teacher is important for a positive learning experience. When parents and teachers work together, it helps your child thrive. This partnership helps teachers understand your child better and keeps you informed about their progress and daily activities. Here are some easy tips to build a strong parent-teacher relationship.

Open Communication

Communicating with teachers is the best way to stay updated. Start by introducing yourself and sharing what you hope your child will learn in preschool. Ask how the teacher prefers to communicate and the best times to check in.

At our school, we use the Links to Home app. It helps families keep track of their child’s daily activities, meals, sleep, and more. Parents love getting photos of their children through this app! Links to Home also allows for quick communication, which is extremely helpful if a parent forgets to mention something important at drop-off such as their child might be tired and need extra comfort that day.

Share Information

Support your child’s teacher by sharing what you know about your child’s interests and strengths. Let them know about any challenges your child may have. This helps create a caring learning environment, tailored to your child.

Be Involved

Join in school events, attend parent-teacher conferences, and look for volunteer opportunities. Parent involvement shows your support and keeps you connected to the classroom.

Be Respectful and Positive

Always be respectful and positive when talking with teachers. Acknowledge their hard work and show appreciation for what they do.

Collaborate on Goals

Work with the teacher to set goals for your child. Check in regularly to discuss progress. For example, if you’re working on potty training, share your strategies so the teacher can support you at school. If you need help, ask the teacher for advice. Our experienced teachers are happy to offer tips for success!

Regular Check-Ins

Make it a habit to check in with teachers during drop-off or pick-up. A simple “How was today?” can start a conversation and strengthen your connection.

Following our tips will help you build a positive partnership with your child’s teachers. This creates a supportive environment for your child’s learning and growth. To learn more about how we foster positive relationships with families, find a school today!
